Which TV size is right for my room?
A simple viewing-distance rule, a size chart from 32" to 65", and when 4K actually matters.
Buying a TV that's too small is the most common regret we hear. Buying one that's too big is the second. The good news: picking the right size takes one measuring tape and thirty seconds.
The quick rule
Measure the distance from where you sit to where the TV will hang. Then:
- HD Ready / Full HD: screen size (inches) ≈ viewing distance (inches) ÷ 2
- 4K UHD: screen size (inches) ≈ viewing distance (inches) ÷ 1.5
4K packs four times the pixels of Full HD, so you can sit closer — or go bigger — before the picture starts to look soft.
Size chart
| Viewing distance | Comfortable size | Simonex pick |
|---|---|---|
| 4–6 ft (bedroom, study) | 32" | 32" HD Ready |
| 6–8 ft (small living room) | 43" | 43" Full HD |
| 7–9 ft (living room) | 50"–55" | 50" & 55" 4K UHD |
| 9 ft and more (hall, home theatre) | 55"–65" | 65" 4K UHD |
Tip: tape a sheet of newspaper to the wall at the size you're considering. If it feels like a cinema from your sofa, you've found it.
Height matters too
The centre of the screen should sit roughly at eye level when you're seated — usually 100–110 cm from the floor. Wall-mounting higher than that (above a TV unit or fireplace) is the fastest way to a sore neck.
Do I need 4K?
For screens 50" and above, yes. At those sizes Full HD pixels start to become visible from a normal sofa distance, and most OTT apps now stream in 4K. For a 32" bedroom TV, HD Ready is perfectly sharp at bed distance.
Sound
Frameless TVs are thin, which leaves little room for big speakers. For a living room or hall, pair your TV with a Simonex multimedia speaker — the difference in dialogue clarity is immediate.
